  • During the Design Phases of a high-rise project, SLS Consulting, Inc., develops a multi-zone airflow and containment transport analysis model using CONTAMW to determine required smokeproof enclosure airflows and develop the project’s Smoke Control Rational Analysis report required by Section 909.4 of the FBC.   • During the Construction Phases of a high-rise project, SLS Consulting, Inc., provides smoke control special inspection services during the construction phase of the project as required by Section 909.18.8 of the FBC. Typical services included in this process are listed below:

 

  • Develop Test Scripts to identify specific testing scenarios to be evaluated;
  • Systems commissioning and testing;

  • The intent of SLS Consulting, Inc., involvement during annual smoke control testing is to assist the building with completing the required annual testing and evaluation of the existing smoke control system within the building. This annual testing is a requirement of the Fire Department and code requirement per Section 8.6 of Section 92, Standard for Smoke Control Systems. EMP: EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT/PLANNING SERVICES

 

 

Subsequent to the acquisition of EM3 Consulting, LLC, SLS Consulting, Inc., has provided emergency management planning services on large complex projects and for institutional clients with expertise and sensitivity to our client’s needs. We’ve also developed automated and proprietary interactive secure web-based software, EmFlex­TM which brings archaic written emergency management plans to building occupants phones and tablet, while also providing a means to communicate and provide for escalation as events change.

We are firm believers that we start every emergency management plan with the framework provided by nationally and internationally recognized codes; however, our job is to provide the following services:

  • Understand the realistic capabilities of the on-site project team taking into account staffing abilities and turnover;
  • Integrate to the greatest extent possible existing building features which can be utilized in the event of an emergency for communication, notification and support services;

ELSS: ENGINEERED LIFE SAFETY SYSTEM

 

 

An Engineered Life Safety System (ELSS) is an engineering analysis of an existing building with an implementation of additional safety features and fire protection systems to provide a level of safety approved by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in lieu of a particular code requirement.

Our role and responsibility are to act as a resource to a building owner and/or project team to bring clarity and resolution as expeditiously as possible. It is important to recognize that the ELSS has the potential to result in additional requirements/enhancements within a building; which must be agreed upon by the Fire Marshal or Fire Chief. Our goal is to establish a baseline of minimum requirements with options for the building owner and/or project team.

The primary goal of SLS Consulting, Inc., is to assist the project team in the following:

  • Understanding the requirements;
  • Understanding the process;
  • Completing a realistic assessment of existing fire protection and life safety conditions and features within a building;
  • Developing an ELSS with options for enhancements where required that can be collaboratively decided upon with key project stakeholders;
  • Assisting in the approvals process of the ELSS with the fire department;
  • Being available to the property owner/team to ensure that the ELSS is implemented in a cost-effective and quality manner.
